In this session, good friends Alvin Tsoi, VJ Sianghio, Nate Dy-Liacco, Diwa del Mundo, JD Uy and Ken Tan introduce what is EntrepBuff and how it came to be. Along with the light jokes and banters, they also discuss one of their ambitious projects, Week by Week - A year-long endeavor that features weekly, locally-grown, passionate and innovative Philippine entrepreneurial leaders talking about the things we sometimes neglect, the necessary human experience and its spirit.

Show notes:

How it all happened.

EntrepBuff was started by a group of friends from Ateneo de Manila University, namely Ken, Tsoi, VJ and JD, back in December of 2006. During those times, most of the boys were already feeling disheartened with their career choices, thus the group informally met almost weekly talking about dreams, gadgets, and the coolest of innovations we've been reading and hearing about. Then an 'aha' idea came, for the group to share experiences, ideas, inspiration and the needed characteristics to be able to encourage the youth to pursue one's passion and make a profitable career out of it. With the addition of two other very talented dudes, Nate (from Ateneo as well) Diwa (from UP), in mid-2007, the group set out to pursue promising endeavors in organizing events - several financial literacy and entrepreneurial discussions - and building up an online community through www.EntrepBuff.com, "the web channel for the passionate next-gen entrepreneur".

Week by Week

Our first attempt with web video content, Week by Week features (obviously) weekly, the most passionate, innovative and locally-grown individuals in a 5 to 10 minute talk about how it is to be a dreamer and a doer.

Airing time and EntrepBuff's international dreams...

Catch new episodes every Sunday 9pm Philippine time, and because the group believes in JD's tisoy looks to catch overseas Filipinos' attention, we've also indicated the airing in Pacific time, a very early 5am.

Thanks!

If not for them, we wouldn't have been able to execute this super excellent project!

  • Galvin Radley Ngo - one of the very few talented motion graphic artists out there. Thanks to Galvin and his company, Project Lightswitch, for the great work done to our opening animation sequence. You guys can check his work out over YouTube.
  • Richard St. John - the inspiration behind our "teaching" format, Stupid, Ugly, Unlucky and Rich: Spike's Guide to Success is definitely an essential weapon to every entrepreneurial spirit. Being stupid, ugly and unlucky is definitely not an excuse to shoot for the stars. To get a copy of the book just click here.
  • Bob Rifo - thanks to him for sharing his rock out music under Creative Commons. If not for him, all we had was great motion graphics for our opening animation sequence. You can visit him in his MySpace page or buy his music.
  • The very smart, inspiring and generous future speakers.

And of course, to the most important person in this project, you! Salamat ng sobrang laki! (Parang panget pakinggan yun ah...)

Salamat Burn :) hehe ganun ba? Oo ironic because that's what we wanted to do. I guess we're so awed by the great things western entrepreneurial leaders have done and I guess that's because they have 1) documentation of their works, and 2) their works have a mass reach because of media. With those two in mind, I guess that's what we're trying to reach with EntrepBuff. Yung leaders naman, it's in a lot of us, di lang natin nakikita madalas at di na-hhype up :)

saludo ako sa inyo guys. unit-mate ko si JD sa ACLC (:p) btw... though i havent explored the WHOLE site yet, i think this is really cool! natutuwa ako sa mga dicussions coz i can relate talaga haha i think there's a growing consciousness towards entrepeneurship. im a "shiftee" myself (from engineering). my mentor in Ateneo (ECE dept.) is also a social entrepreneur now. i believe this will truly empower our family, friends, and ultimately this country. nakakatuwa naman kasi nakaka-invite kayo ng mga speakers. i truly believe that mentorship can shorten people's learning curve. yung ginagawa ninyo pwedeng peer-mentorship rin since may kanya-kanya kayong exposure sa industry no? anyway, God bless and more power!
